Important — Please read before purchasing
All purchases on DropBid are binding and final. By placing a bid (buying), you accept these terms in full.
1. DropBid's Role as Service Provider
DropBid (dropbid.eu) is a marketplace platform that facilitates descending-price auctions between private individuals and companies. DropBid is not the seller of any product listed on the platform and accepts no liability for the products sold.
The seller is solely responsible for ensuring that the product is accurately described, is in the stated condition, and complies with all applicable laws and regulations.
DropBid's revenue consists of commissions paid by buyers (8% auction fee) and sellers (8% sales commission), logistics commissions received from DHL freight, and advertising fees paid by sellers for promoted listings. DropBid does not take title to any goods.
2. Seller Responsibilities
The seller is the contractual counterparty to the buyer. The seller is solely responsible for:
- The accuracy and completeness of the product description and images.
- The condition of the product as listed.
- Compliance with all applicable consumer protection and product safety laws.
- The payment of Value Added Tax (VAT / ALV) on sales, in accordance with Finnish VAT legislation. The purchase price includes VAT at the applicable rate (currently 25.5%).
- Packaging and handing over the item to DHL for shipping after a sale — this obligation applies only to sellers who offer DHL shipping. Sellers using other-method-only shipping arrange delivery directly with the buyer through the platform's messaging system.
- Providing accurate package dimensions and weight when listing items with DHL shipping enabled. These values are used to calculate the DHL shipping costs charged to the buyer. Inaccurate package data that results in additional carrier charges is the sole responsibility of the seller.
Companies selling on DropBid must ensure they are registered for VAT and issue invoices where required by Finnish tax law.
Sellers must complete Stripe Connect Express onboarding (bank account and identity verification) before any payouts can be issued for sold items.
Sellers choose which shipping methods to offer buyers: DHL Freight only, another method only (e.g. personal delivery, pickup, or third-party courier), or both. The seller's choice is displayed on the listing and the buyer selects their preferred method at checkout.
3. No Right of Return — Binding Purchase
All purchases on DropBid are final and non-refundable. By clicking "Buy Now", the buyer acknowledges and accepts that:
- The bid (purchase) is immediately binding.
- There is no statutory right of withdrawal (right of return) for auction purchases under EU/Finnish consumer law (Consumer Protection Act, Chapter 6, §16).
- The buyer is purchasing the product in its described condition, from the individual seller, not from DropBid.
- DropBid makes no warranties regarding the product, its fitness for purpose, or its quality.
Business Seller Purchases — Cancellation and Return Rights:
When the seller is a business (company account) and the buyer is a consumer, the following additional rights apply in accordance with EU and Finnish consumer protection law:
- 2-hour cancellation window: The buyer has the right to cancel the order within 2 hours of purchase without giving any reason. A cancellation link is sent to the buyer's email immediately after purchase. If cancelled within this window, the product is returned to auction and the buyer receives a full refund.
- 14-day right of return: After receiving the item, the buyer has 14 days to exercise the right of return. The buyer must submit a return request through the platform, including the reason and any supporting evidence (e.g. photos).
- Return shipping costs: The buyer bears the cost of return shipping, unless the item was damaged in transit or does not match the listing description.
- Condition-based deductions: If the returned item shows signs of use or damage beyond the original listing condition, the seller may apply a deduction of up to 50% of the purchase price. The seller must provide a written justification for any deduction.
- Refund process: Once the seller approves the return (full or partial), the platform admin processes the refund via Stripe to the buyer's original payment method. Refunds are processed within 5-10 business days.
- DHL shipment creation is locked until the 2-hour cancellation window expires, ensuring the buyer can cancel before the item is shipped.
4. Payment, Payouts & Stripe Connect
Upon completing a purchase, the buyer's chosen payment method is immediately charged via Stripe for the full amount, which includes:
- The product sale price (VAT included at 25.5%).
- The buyer's auction commission (8% of sale price).
- Shipping costs via DHL freight, where applicable (including DropBid's logistics commission).
- A fixed €10 service fee for other-method (pickup / personal delivery) purchases, charged at checkout. Of this fee, €8 is paid to the seller and €2 is retained by the platform as commission.
DropBid uses Stripe Connect to manage seller payouts. Sellers must complete Stripe Connect Express onboarding (including bank account and identity verification) before any payouts can be issued. The payout method depends on the shipping method selected by the buyer at checkout:
- DHL Freight purchases: The seller's share is transferred instantly at the moment the buyer completes payment, via Stripe Connect transfer_data — no delivery confirmation is required for payout. The seller receives 92% of the total amount charged to the buyer (the listed item price plus the 8% buyer commission, minus the 8% seller commission), so the effective net to the seller equals 92% of the total amount paid by the buyer.
- Other method purchases (escrow): The buyer's payment — including the €10 service fee — is held securely in DropBid's platform account (escrow). The funds are not transferred to the seller until the seller confirms delivery and a 48-hour dispute window has passed. Once the dispute window expires without a dispute, 92% of the item price (minus the 8% seller commission) plus the full €8 seller share of the service fee is automatically transferred to the seller's Stripe Connect account. The platform retains the €2 commission portion of the service fee.
- DropBid retains the combined 16% commission (8% buyer commission + 8% seller commission) plus any logistics and boost fees, and the €2 platform commission on other-method service fees.
- If the seller has not connected a Stripe Connect account at the time of sale, the platform holds the funds until onboarding is completed, after which the payout is issued.
Escrow dispute process: After the seller confirms delivery for an other-method purchase, the buyer has 48 hours to file a dispute if the item was not received or does not match the listing. If a dispute is filed, the funds remain held in escrow pending review by DropBid. If no dispute is filed within 48 hours, the funds are automatically released to the seller. If delivery fails or is cancelled for DHL purchases, DropBid will review the case and may issue a refund to the buyer at its discretion. Boost/lift fees (€2/day) are non-refundable once activated.
5. Shipping Methods & Logistics
Sellers may offer one or both of the following shipping methods on each listing: (a) DHL Freight, or (b) an other method arranged directly between buyer and seller (e.g. personal delivery, pickup, or a third-party courier of the seller's choice). If the seller offers both, the buyer selects their preferred method at checkout.
DHL Freight: DropBid offers DHL Freight shipping solely as a convenience tool for buyers and sellers. Shipping is not a core service of the platform, and DropBid acts only as an intermediary to help arrange transport. Shipping costs are calculated based on package weight and dimensions and are charged to the buyer at checkout. DropBid receives a logistics commission from DHL, which is factored into the shipping price displayed. DropBid bears no liability whatsoever for DHL shipping — including, without limitation, delays, loss, damage, misdelivery, or non-delivery of any item. The carrier (DHL) is solely responsible for the transport and handling of shipments. All claims, complaints, compensation requests, and disputes relating to DHL shipping must be directed to DHL directly.
Other method: When the buyer selects an other shipping method, a fixed €10 service fee is charged at checkout (€8 to the seller, €2 platform commission). The buyer and seller then arrange delivery or pickup directly through the platform's messaging system. DropBid does not participate in, mediate, or bear responsibility for the delivery arrangement. The buyer's payment is held in escrow on the platform until the seller confirms delivery, after which a 48-hour dispute window applies (see Section 4). DropBid bears no liability for items delivered via other methods — including delays, loss, damage, misdelivery, or non-delivery. The seller is solely responsible for ensuring safe delivery to the buyer.
6. Advertising & Promoted Listings (Boost/Lift)
Sellers may pay a €2/day fee to promote their listing to the top of search results for 1–7 days. The fee is charged via Stripe Checkout at the time of activation and is non-refundable once the boost has been activated. DropBid does not guarantee any specific sales results from promoted listings.
7. Governing Law
These terms are governed by Finnish law. Any disputes shall be resolved in the courts of Finland. Consumer disputes may also be referred to the Finnish Consumer Disputes Board (Kuluttajariitalautakunta).
8. Data Protection & Privacy (GDPR)
DropBid acts as the data controller for personal data processed through the platform. Personal data is processed in accordance with the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR, Regulation 2016/679) and the Finnish Data Protection Act (Henkilötietolaki).
DropBid collects and processes the following personal data: name, email address, phone number, delivery address, company name and VAT number (for business sellers), payment method details (card last four digits, expiry), transaction history, and listing data. Full payment card numbers and CVV codes are never stored by DropBid.
- Performance of a contract (Article 6(1)(b) GDPR) — to process purchases, sales, payments, and shipping.
- Legal obligations (Article 6(1)(c) GDPR) — to comply with Finnish tax, accounting, and consumer protection laws.
- Legitimate interests (Article 6(1)(f) GDPR) — to prevent fraud, ensure platform security, and provide customer support.
- Consent (Article 6(1)(a) GDPR) — for optional marketing communications, where explicitly granted.
Data subjects have the following rights under GDPR:
- Right of access — request a copy of your personal data.
- Right to rectification — correct inaccurate or incomplete data.
- Right to erasure ('right to be forgotten') — request deletion of your data, subject to legal retention obligations.
- Right to restriction of processing — limit how your data is used.
- Right to data portability — receive your data in a structured, machine-readable format.
- Right to object — object to processing based on legitimate interests.
- Right to withdraw consent — at any time, without affecting prior processing.
DropBid does not sell personal data to third parties. Data may be shared with payment processors (Stripe), shipping carriers (DHL), and Finnish tax authorities where legally required. Personal data is retained only as long as necessary for the purposes described and in accordance with Finnish statutory retention periods. To exercise your data protection rights, contact DropBid support. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the Finnish Data Protection Ombudsman (Tietosuojavaltuutettu).
9. Privacy & Anonymity
Buyers and sellers on DropBid are mutually anonymous. Neither party sees the other party's real name, email address, or personal details during or after a transaction. All user-facing interactions — including listings, messages, and shipping labels — display consistent anonymous aliases (e.g. 'Seller #A3F2', 'Buyer #8B19') instead of real identities.
Both buyers and sellers undergo identity verification managed by the platform. This verification is conducted securely by DropBid and is not visible to the other party.
The platform administrator retains access to verified real identities solely for the purposes of dispute resolution, fraud prevention, and legal compliance. Real identity information is never shared between buyers and sellers.
By using the DropBid platform, users consent to this identity management policy and acknowledge that their real identity is known only to the platform administrator.
10. Message Monitoring, Off-Platform Trading & Commission
By using DropBid's messaging system, users acknowledge and agree that DropBid has the right to monitor, review, and moderate all messages exchanged between buyers and sellers on the platform. This monitoring is conducted to ensure compliance with these Terms, to prevent fraud, and to maintain platform integrity.
Trading outside the platform is prohibited. Buyers and sellers may not use the messaging system or any information obtained through DropBid to complete transactions off-platform (i.e. without using DropBid's checkout and payment systems) in order to circumvent the platform's commissions.
If DropBid determines, through message monitoring or other means, that a transaction has been completed off-platform — whether the parties were brought together by DropBid or not — DropBid reserves the right to charge the standard commissions that would have applied to an on-platform transaction: the buyer's auction fee (8% of sale price) and the seller's sales commission (8% of sale price). These commissions may be invoiced to the responsible party and, if unpaid, may result in suspension of the account.
DropBid further reserves the right to suspend or ban users who repeatedly attempt to circumvent platform commissions by trading off-platform.
11. Allowed Content
DropBid is primarily a marketplace for used products. Used products are the primary allowed content.
Individual new items and sample units are permitted, but repeated bulk selling of new goods is not allowed. DropBid is not a bulk new-goods sales platform.
- Used products — the primary intended use.
- Individual new items and sample units — permitted in reasonable quantities.
- Repeated selling of new goods — prohibited.
- The administrator reserves the right to remove listings that do not meet these criteria.
- The administrator reserves the right to ban users who repeatedly violate these criteria.
